Denne måler bruges til at få måle og reducere graden af “beskidt strøm” i dit elsystem. Dvs. højfrekvente transienter (2-100 kHz) der ligger og “rider” på husets 220V elinstallationer. Denne form for elektrisk støj er ikke bare potentielt skadeligt for elektronik og andre enheder, der er koblet til dit elnet, men også for de dyr og mennesker der opholder sig i huset. Alle husets elledninger virker som antenner, der udsender denne højfrekvente støj som radiobølger.
Måleren bruges med fordel til at:
- få et overblik over graden af “beskidt strøm” i de forskellige værelser / på de forskellige sikringskredse. Dette gøres enkelt ved at måleren sluttes til husets forskellige stikkontakter, og at man noterer de værdier man får. De målte niveauer bør ikke overstige 100 enheder, og skal ideelt ligge under 50 enheder.
- identificere de forskellige kilder der bidrager til problemet. Dette gøres ved at man tænder og slukker for potentielle støjkilder mens man måler værdierne. Her kan man ofte blive overrasket over at finde nogle kraftige støjkilder. Nogle er nemme at gøre sig af med ved at fx udskifte en dårlig lyskilde. Andre er sværere at gøre noget ved og må dæmpes med filtre, der reducerer støjen til et acceptabelt niveau.
- vurdere effekten af de filtre man eventuelt (oftest!) må bruge. Ved at have en måler kan man finde den optimale placering af de filte man bruger, og samtidigt tydeligt se hvor mange man skal bruge for at nå ned på et ønsket niveau.

Dirty Electricity Monitor Technical Specification
The monitor displays levels of dirty electricity in the low to medium radio-frequency range present upon the Mains Power system. A summation of the individual transients provides a relative, transient noise level which effectively indicates high, conducted transient activity produced by most pluggable electrical products.
The maximum allowable product transient emissions is governed by statute under current European norms, however this does not yet pertain to energy levels perceptible by humans or animals.
The monitor is tuned to observe only these transient levels for the purposes of reducing them to below perceptible levels via the use of special filters. The monitor circuitry ignores the 50/60Hz fundamental frequency that electrical products are designed to be powered by and in turn, the filters are designed to reduce pulse-type interference and ‘dampen’ the transient energy. In industry, this is standard practice to help manufacturers meet stringent EU Directives pertaining to Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
The system is low cost, robust and specifically designed for use by non-technical people. The levels are displayed in WP units (since no standard term is available). The WP units are a popular relative measure of “harmful energy” which reflect the sum the rate of change of voltage over time (dV/dt) caused by unwanted transient signals.
DIRTY ELECTRICITY MONITOR INSTRUCTIONS
The monitor is designed to show you in a simplified method if you have dirty electricity levels you need to reduce or not. Consult the back of the unit regarding this.
You can use the monitor to understand what contribution you are making to your own environment and what comes in on to your wiring from outside of the environment you’re measuring.
To understand how best to reduce your own levels, turn off all electrical appliances and lighting in your environment and plug your monitor into a switchable socket with the switch off, once the monitor is in turn on the power take the readings you require and when finished turn the socket off again before removing the monitor.
ALLWAYS FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE
Turn appliances and lighting on and off whilst the monitor is in use to understand which modern day appliances create dirty electricity and which don’t: Those that can be easily replaced, such as low energy lighting and dimmer switches should be. Other essentials may only be mitigated by the fitting of a filtration system.
If your monitor reveals levels in excess of 100 WP you need to fit filters. Ideally readings should be below 50 WP units.
READINGS SHOULD BE TAKEN AT TIMES OF PEAK ELECTRICITY USAGE.
